Congratulations to Ethan Wilmot of Zeeland, MI, for being selected as the recipient of the 2021 Elise Joy Frantz Scholarship. Wilmot is a recent graduate of Zeeland East High School and will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in International Relations. He will likely attend law school upon graduation and intends to seek a career with the State Department or the CIA. In addition to maintaining a 4.24 grade point average, Wilmot was a member of the varsity tennis team and marching band, and he volunteered at the Bridge Youth Center. Wilmot was also a member of the Student Senate, the Robotics club, and Army ROTC. He is passionate about American and world history and our system of government. He has an impressive understanding of current events, including the Electoral College and the Senate Filibuster. Wilmot was selected for the $1500 grant from applicants representing all Ottawa County area high schools. As usually happens when we conduct these interviews, all of us on the selection committee were in awe of the knowledge and poise of our winning candidate and the pool of impressive applicants.
